Welcome to our camp... Let's have introductions all around... The red head over there sitting on his haunches is Gary, he was born in Seward, Alaska on March 26, 1950, that makes him somewhat of an ole-timer, but I would be ready for a wrestling match if you call him old. I think you can get away with ole-timer maybe, but that gray hair has not slowed him down at all. Everywhere he goes, you would swear there is a fire, 90 mph or not at all. Gary was born to Charles Joseph and Beulah May Poindexter. He has 4 brothers and a sister. Al, Linda, Craig, Clay, and Rex. He was born in Seward, and withstood Alaska's 1964 earthquake there at the age of 14. He is well traveled in the state of Alaska, and that might well be because he has only left the state 2 times in the last 31 years come this 3rd of July. He vacations in Alaska, works in Alaska, eats what Alaska can provide, and well, he hopes someday an Alaskan Bear will be the one to dispose of his body, in Alaska. I hope someday soon you will be able to learn more about this man I like to call a "Mountain Man" when he can finally get his book published. It is called "Uphill Both Ways". The book is very entertaining, it will make you sad, happy and mad all at one time. Gary graduated from Homer High School in 1968. He did his time in Vietnam. He married his soul mate on July 3, 1976. And has been happily married every since. Of course this is the soul mate proclaiming that, but if he ever gets around to adding to this, I am sure he will say the same. Gary was blessed with two great sons, Daren Lee, born May 2, 1977, and Trapper Dan born September 21, 1979. Neither one a red-head, but both have so many ways that they are like their dad. Gary resided in Anchor Point, Alaska for 22 years after getting married, (although that is were he lived when I met him, to find out more about the path that led him there, and his life there, you will have to read his book when he gets it published), and then in 1998 moved to Kasilof, Alaska where he presently lives. He is still working at the same job that he has been at since January of 1977. Only thing that has changed is the name of the place, and that has happened so often, I am not sure if he really knows where he works anymore. Gary has always been a hunter, fisher and provider. He is more at home in the woods than amongst the civilized human population. Although to hear him tell, that might just be backwards as he feels like the animals of the world might just be the ones that are move civilized than some that reside in the populated areas. Even at the ripe ole age of 56 Gary can still out survive, out climb, outplay, outlast, outrun, and outdo many, many younguns. Hopefully I can get him to add to this, and more than likely, he will rearrange, change, edit, and come up with something that will keep you wanting more. As I said before, he has written a book. We are working to get it published. It is good, and everyone who reads it likes it. It leaves you wanting more, just like he does when he gets started telling stories. Well that just about does it for Gary.. although we have really just seen the tip of the iceberg. There is more under the surface than anyone I have ever met. He built his own boat in 1989, he built our kayaks, he helped build his Mom's house, he built our house in Anchor Point. He can tear down a vw bug and rebuild it, he can garden, cook, clean and provide. This is the ultimate man, but before you go thinking he is superman, STOP, you will never catch him in tights. He is my idol, my friend, my lover, and the father of my kids, my soul mate, and I am always threatening him with "growing old together". Here we are together.. don't we look happy?!! That's me sitting there, probably at the computer or the sewing machine. I have dark hair, and ya ya, I know it will be gray soon, but I am ok with that. I love my family, life, and I love my friends. I am not religious in the sense I would drive you nuts, but I believe in God and all that he has to offer. I was born Linda Joann Nussbaum, Jo for short, in Browning, Montana on March 22, 1958. I came upon the great state of Alaska in 1961, of course in the accompaniment of my parents and sisters. I was born to some great people, John Martin (Bud) and Karen Janeen Nussbaum. I have five sisters. Ellen, Carol, Brookie, Beth, and Debbie. I grew up in Homer, Alaska, and I also graduated from there in 1976. Where upon shortly there after I married Gary, the afore mentioned "Mountain Man". I have been married the same amount of time and had the same great kids as Gary does, so I won't repeat myself there.. I love to hunt, fish, garden, quilt, sew, cook, compute, kayak, hike, camp, and much much more. Most of all I love to do things with and for my family. I will try to put up pictures of some of the animals we have gotten along the way. We NEVER hunt for trophies, we hunt for meat, but sometimes along the way a big one will step into view, and you can see more steaks on them than on the smaller ones. I have pulled in a 336 pound halibut, which I am not afraid to brag is the biggest of the house so far. That pretty much sums it up for me, I am not a wonder woman(ARGH) although I sometimes wonder what I was doing at the time, but I do love life. I now sell Real Estate, and I love my job, I have just recently changed companies after almost 3 years. I have my Broker's License, but I choose to work under another Broker instead of having my own place. I look forward to a long and prosperous time with the owner/broker Tracy Prior. If you look really hard you can see our oldest son, Daren Lee Poindexter. He was born on May 2, 1977. He is strong, handsome, and would make any parents proud to call them their son. He also graduated from Homer High School in Homer, Alaska where he was born. After working on the slope for a while after graduation, he joined the Army, where he spent the next 4 years serving his country. He is currently living in Kodiak, Alaska and serving our country in the Coast Guard. Since they are going to be moving to a new station soon, Theresa hopes to be getting into law school, so they will once again be moving out of state. We love Theresa, and we don't think Daren could of done a better job picking a daughter in law for us. Daren is a hunter and a fisherman to be reckoned with, when he steps into the river and the woods, I know he will come back with something, even if it takes all day. He has the (patience) of a doctor, when it comes to fishing. I know, I know, wrong spelling, but I could not remember who had all that dang patience. There is so much more to say about Daren, and maybe I can get him to send me something to include on here at some point, because he is talented like his Dad when it comes to writing, he can write poetry that makes your heart sing. I will try and get him to send me something for the website about him and Theresa. And then there was Trapper Dan Poindexter, born in Anchorage, Alaska on September 21, 1979. That year we may not of gotten a moose, (season ends on September 20), but we got Trapper, and he has always been extremely bright when it came to making things happen. Just saying his name makes me smile. He graduated in 1996 from the Youth Corp at Fort Richardson, Alaska, with a GED. Trapper can take anything apart and put it back together, mechanical guy that he is, and with that he can talk to to his Dad for hours about things that I now nothing about. On September 12, 2000, he had a son with Dail Rae Greninger. Justin Poindexter, and what a doll he is. I will definitely be posting some pictures of him on the picture page as I go along. His mom emails a lot and I guess he is a handful, smart as a whip, and so much like his Dad. Dail and Trap are not together anymore, but there will always be Justin, so Dail will always be a part of the family. Trapper was out of state in California for 5 years, but finally came home, and we have greatly enjoyed getting to know him better. Gary and I picked up golfing this year, and Trapper went a couple times with us, it was a blast and I look forward to that next year. We all went as a group when Daren and Theresa were over in September, and 5 is a crowd on the golf course, but I loved it even when we could not find our balls due to the many yellow leaves on the course. I will stop for now, as Justin grows, I will try and add his own paragraph to the site to let you know more about him, as Dail keeps me informed of his growing up years. Who knows, maybe she will want to write something and I can cut and paste it to the website. I will be adding some pictures for now, but please stop by often so that you can see what has changed. We will try and alert you to the new stuff so you can find it easy on the website. Until then, thanks for stopping by, and on your way out don't just stop and smell the flowers, pick some and take them with you, and while you are at it, how about grabbing a kohlrabi, or radish, or something out of the garden to munch on for the long ride off the Cohoe Loop. Don't be strangers now.. ya'll come back....... I hope to soon be updating this page with new information about family... And fixing mistakes as I find them, since this site was designed way before I became a working gal in the wonderful world of Real Estate!!
